Third-party data and libraries
------------------------------

### National Weather Service / NOAA
Forecast, observation, alert, and related weather data are provided by the
U.S. National Weather Service and NOAA through publicly documented services
(e.g. weather.gov MapClick, api.weather.gov, radar.weather.gov, CO-OPS tides
and water levels, NHC tropical cyclone products, SPC storm reports).

This application is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by NOAA,
the National Weather Service, or the U.S. Department of Commerce.

Please use government APIs responsibly (reasonable User-Agent, caching, and
rate of requests).

### OpenStreetMap
Map data © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database
License (ODbL). See https://www.openstreetmap.org/copyright

Geocoding via the Nominatim service: https://nominatim.org/
Please respect Nominatim usage policy when self-hosting or heavy use.

### CARTO basemap tiles
Map basemap tiles may be loaded from CARTO basemap CDN (light style) as used
by osmdroid tile configuration. © OpenStreetMap contributors, © CARTO.

### AndroidX / Jetpack / Kotlin / OkHttp / Coil
These libraries are used under their respective open-source licenses
(typically Apache 2.0). See each project for details.

### NWS forecast icons
Weather condition icons are derived from the National Weather Service public
forecast icon API (`api.weather.gov/icons`, land day/night set) and related
legacy MapClick codes. Icons are **bundled** under `assets/nws_icons/` for
offline display and to avoid weather.gov CDN blocks on stock Android clients.

Coverage includes clear/sunny, clouds, rain, showers, snow, sleet, freezing
rain, thunder, fog, haze, smoke, dust, wind, hot/cold, blizzard, hurricane,
tropical storm, and tornado (day and night variants where published).

### NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC)
Planetary Kp index and geomagnetic scale products from services.swpc.noaa.gov.

### USGS
Earthquake catalog via the USGS Earthquake Hazards Program FDSN event API
(https://earthquake.usgs.gov/). Stream and lake stage (parameter 00065) via
USGS Water Services / NWIS for inland water-level context.

### NOAA National Hurricane Center (NHC)
Active tropical cyclone list and related public products
(e.g. https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/CurrentStorms.json).

### NOAA Storm Prediction Center (SPC)
Preliminary local storm reports (tornado, etc.) from SPC climo report products.

### Open-Meteo
Optional hourly extras (air quality / US AQI, UV index, surface pressure, and
visibility fallback) via https://open-meteo.com/ (open data; free non-commercial
API terms apply). See https://open-meteo.com/en/licence

Inspiration
-----------

User experience was inspired by the commercial Android application
“NOAA Weather & Tides” by Pandamonium Software
(https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pandamonium.noaaweather).

Point Forecast is an independent clean-room implementation. It does not
include that product’s source code, proprietary assets, or branding.
